Being a part of SOZO Live
August 14, 2014So here is one of the many extremely gratifying things about being a part of SOZO Live. In addition to performing Contemporary, Classic Rock, Motown, Big Band and Funk dance music, we also get to expose wedding attendees to the most authentic and up-to-date Jewish and Israeli music repertoire. In other words, we get at least one dance segment devoted to real, earthy, foot-stomping current Jewish dance music. Now that may seem very ordinary when you read these words, but in reality it is completely electrifying. The rhythms of both Ashkenazic and Sephardic dance music present a whole “other” musical feel to the event. Naturally guests who are coming to have a good time anyway, get swept right up into the spirit of things. Luckily, there is no great knowledge of dance
Let’s Dance!
March 12, 2014The mock pseudo-styles presenting different kinds of ethnic music no longer work! For many, many years it was cool to have a wedding band that performed all the Classic Rock, Motown, Ballroom and Contemporary music requested. And when it came to the “traditional Mazel Tov Hora” the band did their best w/Hava Nagila, Simon Tov, and a few more token songs that weresung in Hebrew dialects never before heard in the past 3000 years. back links But today, as with Latin Music, African Music, Celtic Music and others, people now want authentic performances that sound right, that are sung correctly, that will really convey the innermost lifeblood of that music. It is most invigorating to watch people who have little or no affiliation with Jewish culture get completely caught up in the spirit and “ruach”
Testimonials
"From the moment you met with us, I felt that Alex's wedding would be in good hands with you at the helm, but you completely exceeded even my high expectations. You, and the singers you brought in, came through with flying colors. That last part of the wedding lasted for well over two hours and the music and dancing never flagged."
Thank you, Gloria
"While there are a lot of things that contribute to a good wedding/party, in my mind, the music is the number one factor. You did an awesome job, and I just wanted to thank you for that."
Thank you, Margot
"A few weeks have gone by since Alex and Sol’s wedding, which provides me with a somewhat better perspective on the crucial role you played in making it such a wonderful and meaningful event for all of us. From the moment you met with us, I felt that Alex's wedding would be in good hands with you at the helm, but you completely exceeded even my high expectations. All the advice you gave us, from where the band should be placed to how we should walk down the aisle was right on target and your helpfulness in getting and keeping us on schedule was invaluable. I’m especially awed by your finesse in helping us maneuver the rather tricky minefield of getting the kids to agree to the familial niggunim we wanted during the chuppah and then managing to orchestrate them based on my poorly sung recordings. (BTW, I’m attaching a brief video taken by my sister-in-law with the Radomsker Eishet Chayil playing in the background. As soon as I get the full video, I’ll get you a copy for your files.) The simcha music was a given – I’ve appreciated your expertise since my own wedding over thirty years ago and somewhat more recently, at Alex’s bat mitzvah, but your expertise in playing secular music was a complete and welcome surprise. The after-party was really important to Alex and Sol, and you and the singers you brought in came through with flying colors. That last part of the wedding lasted for well over two hours and the music and dancing never flagged.Thank you for all your help and patience throughout this process and Mazal Tov on your own daughter’s recent marriage. I look forward to the next simcha."

"Long time, no speak! Adam and Jessica Klein here, writing to you on the 3-month anniversary of our wedding. We've been meaning to reach out since then. Anyway, we wanted to sincerely thank you and the rest of the band for making our reception second-to-none. The music was terrific - from the Hora to the Israeli medley to the rockin' American stuff. Our friends and family couldn't stop raving about the variety of the songs, and how you kept people moving for the entire evening. In the days afterwards, Jessica and I kept replaying the day in our heads. Once we saw the pictures, even more came flooding back. The music was such an integral part of what made our wedding so incredibly memorable, and we wanted to share this with you. If you could relay our message to the rest of your band mates there that night, we'd greatly appreciate it. Oh, and "the Queen thing," as you awesomely put it, made quite the impression on people. Really happy that worked so smoothly. Many, many thanks again. We'll absolutely recommend you to any one of our friends who are looking for an outstanding wedding band."
All the best, Adam and Jessica
"Where do I begin? Is it with the enthusiasm and creativity that you brought to the wedding, the professionalism, the unparalleled quality, or just the world-class whole-wheat Challah you baked for us? On a serious note, Harriet and I really want to thank you for the extraordinary job you and your colleagues delivered for Cara and Joe’s wedding. As you know, our expectations for music as well as every other aspect of the wedding were extremely high. We could not have been more pleased with the incredible job you did. The mix of traditional Jewish/Israeli music and more contemporary sounds were excellent. Several guests were certain that we had two entirely different bands. The music during cocktails and the ceremony was also fantastic. The versatility, professionalism and seamlessness of the entire evening were of the highest quality. And… then there are the intangibles of the evening and the preparation leading up to it. Cara and Joe placed an enormous emphasis on the music, especially during the ceremony. From the Russian folk song to the original compositions that Joe created for the procession, everything was planned and executed brilliantly. You went above and beyond the call of duty. Dov, you were a delight to work with throughout the entire process and we thank you so much for helping to make this occasion such a joyous one for us and our family. Please feel free to use Harriet and me or Cara and Joe as references."
All the best, Harriet & Marc Suvall
"From the moment we first began discussing our wedding, you have been a pleasure to work with. Your pre-wedding advice and guidance was confidence-inspiring, from music selection to band member choices. The wedding was a success because your band was able to satisfy the musical tastes of a diverse group of guests, from traditional Jewish music to contemporary English. Some guests still cannot believe that Louis Armstrong himself was not there in person. The post-wedding reviews have come in and the comments are superlative. We cannot fully convey in words how appreciative we are for everything you did to make our wedding the success it was. Thank you so much and we hope to work with you again in the future."
Thank you, Melissa and Marc Schwartz
"I just wanted to thank you for everything. The music could not have been better, and every one of my friends commented on it. While there are a lot of things that contribute to a good wedding/party, in my mind, the music is the number one factor. You did an awesome job, and I just wanted to thank you for that."
Best, Margot Schacter
"I just wanted to thank you again for the spectacular job you did at the wedding. The music was so terrific, people didn’t want to go home. Everyone is still talking about what a great time they had and how the music was amazing."
Thank you again, Ruthie
"Thank you very much for helping to make our wedding so special! We loved your band – and especially your wonderful Israeli Folk Dance leader. This was a special and meaningful highlight for me, my friends and our family. You’re the best!"
Thank you again for bringing my vision to life., Tracy
"Not only were you a pleasure to work with professionally from the very beginning, but I feel like I made a new friend! Thanks again for your warmth, your talent, your patience, your sense of humor, your keen understanding of my vision, and your fabulous band."
Best regards, Donna
"I know the wedding was almost six months ago, but not QUITE six months so I think this is still valid. We loved the music at our wedding! You not only played all of the songs we requested really well, but also managed to add in songs we didn't even mention that we love. We only noticed a lot of these songs after watching the wedding video, but we were so impressed and so happy with everything from the first meeting to the end of the wedding."
Bottom line: THANK YOU!, Gilit and Judah
"Things have been hectic and I haven't had a chance to communicate with you and express our appreciation. Penny and I want you to know what a magnificent job you did with Tali and Dani's wedding from start to finish, from preparation to the final song and for putting up with my singing. You are a true professional and a real Mensch. The reaction from the guests was so overwhelmingly positive. You read the crowd amazingly and added tremendous Energy to the event. We look forward to working with you at our next affair and know that many of our guests with future events will be contacting you. Thanks again."
Warmest regards, Penny and Jerry
"Wanted you thank you both for putting together a wonderful event! We couldn't have asked for any better music and spirit. I was absolutely shocked at how many of my "requests" were played so well. Everyone at the end of the night (and today) told us how good the music was! They haven't stopped raving! It was a blast! Thank you for making the evening so special for Bre and I. I wanted to thank the band personally for such an amazing job, but wasn't able to, as by the time we were done greeting the guests, the band had left. Please forward this email to them as even though I didn't get to thank them personally, they all added so much to the event."
Kindest Regards, Gregg and Bre
